I joined the Sustainability committee while teaching at our local college to brainstorm the welfare of future generations of people. But, wildlife also depends on the sustainability of natural resources. Sometimes I pause and reflect on how far the world has come since my grandparents time. My grandparents could not have imagined the depleted fish and wildlife population, or the polluted water supplies that would emerge with expanding human populations. And, back then, people didn’t think about how long it would take plastics, glass, wool, wood, or aluminum cans to degrade. This sign, on the American Trail, is an interactive and educational reminder of moving forward to reduce, reuse, and recycle—and the evolving priorities of a lifetime.
